Dichroic Glass
This manmade cabochon is a modern piece, but dichroic glassmaking techniques date back many centuries! Not nearly as old as lost-wax casting, no, but we can safely say that both methods were used by the Romans - so that’s neat.
As always, every winged piece is unique! Each one begins by matching a stone to one of my many wing doodles, inspired by insects, fantasy art, and natural shapes. Using my drawings as a template, I sculpt the wings in wax wire, and then build shape and texture with heat! No two are ever quite alike.
